‘To look at things as if they could be otherwise: The Role of the Imagination in Art and Education’ is an essay that started with Maxine Greens’ great quote on the ways the imagination can impact change on personal and social level. My perspective is based on three central functions of the imagination: our ability to see alternative futures, the capacity for empathy and for making incompatible ideas work together. The artifact I made for this essay is a book with different color transparent sheets collaged together. The text was printed on top of them in light grey, allowing the layers of text and meaning to overlap and embracing the feeling of transparency and interrelation. The full essay is available underneath but without the artifact book, which is one of a kind object.
